A lot of backyards have the bones - good space, a nice fence, maybe some lawn - but nothing really ties it together. No defined outdoor area to sit. No planting beds to give it life. Just... open yard. That's exactly what we were working with here, and it's one of the most common things we see.

We expanded the existing concrete patio to give the homeowners a real usable surface. Our crew hand-finished the fresh slab right up against the existing structure, keeping the expansion level and tight. Concrete work like this sounds simple, but getting the finish consistent and the expansion joint right matters - especially if you want it to last.

On the sides of the yard, we installed garden beds with a mix of trees and shrubs planted along the fence line, then topped everything with a layer of mulch for clean definition between the turf and the planting areas. In the side yard sections, we went with decorative river rock instead of mulch - lower maintenance, great drainage, and it adds a polished look that holds up much better over time.

What you end up with is a yard that has clear purpose in every zone. A surface for entertaining. Planting beds that add privacy and greenery as the trees mature. And rock beds that look clean without needing constant attention. Each piece works together - none of it feels random.

That's the difference between just planting some stuff and actually thinking through how a yard should function. We do both the concrete and the landscaping, which means we can plan it all at once instead of having two separate crews try to figure it out after the fact.
